Libertyville to Start Pavement Patching Projects

Village to patch pavements in three Libertyville locations; Crane Boulevard, Riva Ridge subdivision and around St. William Drive. All work scheduled for completion by end of April.

Village workers will start patching pavements in parts of Crane Boulevard and in the Riva Ridge neighborhood early next week, according to a village engineer.

“We finished the Dymond Road project early and the project came in under-budget so we are using money leftover from that project” to patch pavements around Libertyville, said Frederick Chung, senior project engineer for the Village of Libertyville.

Some 1,875-square-yards of Libertyville pavement and roadways will get rehabilitated thanks to low bids from the .

Chung says the village plans to spend about $100,000 patching pavements in three Libertyville locations –selected areas of Crane Boulevard, in the Riva Ridge subdivision and around St. William Drive.

“We will be working on this project in different phases because we can’t close the road entirely,” Chung said. “All work should be completed by end of April.”

Selected areas of Crane Boulevard pavement from Ames to Dawes streets will be removed and replaced. This concrete patching work may also include some sections of curb and gutter replacement.

Deteriorated sections of the concrete pavement on Kempton Drive, between Red Top and Riva Ridge drives will be the first areas to be patched.

For both areas, village crews will be patching one side of the street before beginning work on the other side of the street. The village will be implementing a temporary one-way restriction.

Temporary Traffic Change

Crane Boulevard: West Rockland Road and Dawes Avenue will be used as part of the temporary route and detour direction signals will be placed at various locations.

Riva Ridge Subdivision: Kempton Drive, between Red Top and Riva Ridge drives will be temporary restricted to one-way northbound travel until patchwork has been completed.  Two-way traffic on Kempton Drive will be maintained between Riva Ridge and Florsheim drive during this time. Directional signals will be placed so that southbound traffic is diverted to Riva Ridge Drive.

Some Driveway Interruptions

Residents that could face temporary driveway closures should have received construction advisory notices during this week, Chung said.

New concrete will require a minimum of four to five days cure time after it is poured before it is strong enough to open to traffic, so some driveways will be closed during the project.

Tips While Driveway is Out of Service

  • Park away from active work areas, so your vehicle does not hinder the contractor’s operations. This will also minimize the chances for any damage to your vehicle.
  • If a neighbor’s driveway is not affected by the work, perhaps they can accommodate you. If that is not feasible, parking along side streets should be available. For work in Riva Ridge Subdivision, parking should be available along Red Top Drive or Suffolk Court.

Police and Fire departments are aware that there may be overnight parking on some of the neighborhood street during the projects. This should prevent the issuance of tickets for that reason. Vehicles without current village vehicle stickers, however, could be issued tickets.

If you have any questions regarding the work, please contact the Engineering Office at 847-918-2100 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.

For problems after hours, or on weekends, call the Police Department’s non-emergency number 847-362-8310, and they will contact the proper personnel for follow-up.
