Libertyville Trustees Set to Approve Commercial Garbage Franchise

A contract with Groot could be approved at the board's next meeting.

Libertyville trustees are poised to approve a commercial waste hauling franchise at their next board meeting, and Libertyville resident Katherine Aynillian thinks it's a great move.

As a member of the Lake County Green Congregations—a group of local churches that focuses on environmental issues—Aynillian is happy that the franchise will include recycling for Libertyville's businesses.

"We are just thrilled that this is moving forward," said Aynillian. "We need to conserve resources, and this is just one way to do that. We commend you. We support you."

Trustees held a public hearing about the commercial garbage franchise at their meeting Tuesday night. Aynillian was the only person to provide comments.

The village is set to contract with Groot for the franchise. The franchise will start on or about Feb. 1, 2015. State statute requires a 15-month waiting period before the franchise service can begin.
