Light Switches to Save More Energy at Libertyville Sports Complex

could see more energy savings with the installation of new light switches at the facility.

Village trustees approved a resolution and change order to a contract with Jasco Electric to install additional light switches that could provide a 10 percent to 20 percent reduction in kilowatt-hours used at .

“We will see real returns on investment in reduced cost to the village with this project,” said Trustee Richard Moras during Tuesday’s board meeting. “I think it’s a really good project.”

The additional cost to install switches is $6,943 and will be paid for through grants at no additional cost to the village. In February, the village awarded a $102,764 contract to Jasco Electric. The change order brings the total project cost to $109,707.

Jasco Electric will be working with to replace 385 light fixtures at the Sports Complex, which is expected to provide an estimated energy savings of $22,625 annually.

“Now it says it will save us 10 to 20 percent reduction in kilowatt-hours; that’s only if someone remembers to turn the switches off, correct?” Mayor Terry Weppler asked.

Connie Kowal, director of Recreation and Sports Complex for the village, assured the Weppler that someone would be monitoring the switches.

In February, totaling $111,000 from the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to replace existing light fixtures at the  with energy-efficient lighting.
