Mayor Weppler Thanks Libertyville Customers

Libertyville mayor encourages residents to Shop Libertyville.

As a sign of appreciation for patronizing Libertyville businesses, Mayor Terry Weppler bagged groceries, shook hands, and thanked customers at on Monday.

“I just wanted to thank people for shopping here in Libertyville,” Weppler said. “When people shop here, 68 cents of every dollar stays in the community.”

A week earlier, Weppler greeted and thanked customers at store on Milwaukee Avenue.

According to Community Development Director John Spoden, Jewel-Osco is one of the village’s top 20 tax earning entities.

“One of the easiest ways to keep your taxes low is to shop in town,” Mayor Weppler said on Monday.

He stressed that many of the village’s businesses also support children’s soccer and little league teams.

In a letter to residents, Mayor Weppler explained the importance of “shopping Libertyville” because it helps pay for roads, fire and police services, and community events like Libertyville Days Festival and the Independence Day fireworks.

Sunset Foods manager Steve Garner was appreciative of the mayor’s appearance on Monday and said he believes his customer base will stay loyal.

“They’re going to go through and check it (Mariano’s) out, but they’re slowly coming back for the quality product here,” Garner said.
