Sheyman Raises More Than $140,000 for Quarter

More than 4,800 people made donations. Dold, Schneider wait to disclose totals.

Congressional candidate raised more than $140,000 from over 4,800 donors for the quarter ending Sept. 30 in his pursuit of the Democratic nomination in the March 20 primary to oppose in the November, 2012 general election. 

Sheyman, a community organizer from Waukegan, was the first candidate to disclose his third quarter fundraising totals, which must be filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by Oct. 15. 

One of Sheyman’s primary opponents, Deerfield management consultant , and a spokesperson for Dold indicated they plan to release their results by the deadline. The third Democratic candidate, Mundelein attorney , did not return calls from Patch.

Sheyman was prouder of the fact that more than 6,200 individuals have made donations since he started his campaign than he was that he has raised over $250,000 since he began his effort to be elected to the House of Representatives. 

“At a time when people all over the country are becoming disenchanted with politics, the fact our campaign is picking up this much momentum is generating a lot of excitement,” Sheyman said. “People are hungry for bold, progressive representation.”

Between his cash on hand and a recent endorsement from MoveOn.org with 12,000 members in the 10th District, Sheyman is confident his campaign will have the resources it needs to wage a successful campaign. Sheyman worked for the organization before resigning earlier this year to run for Congress. 

“We expect to have the money and people on the ground to run the campaign we want to run,” Sheyman said. He indicated more than 300 people have volunteered so far to knock on doors and make phone calls for him. 

As of June 30, Schneider raised $321,085 and reported $306,150 cash on hand according to reports filed with the FEC. Dold raised $528,304 in the same period with $751,881 in the bank. He has collected $903,011 from November 2010 through June 30. Sheyman had $60,225 available at the end of the second quarter.
