Trustees Vote to Move Forward on Water Main Projects

The collective bargaining contract between the village and the Fraternal Order of Police Sergeant's Lodge was also approved.

took action on two water main projects Tuesday night, approving the design engineering for one and the construction of another.

Trustees voted unanimously to award a contract to A-Lamp Contractors, Inc. for the replacement of a deteriorating 6-inch water main with a 12-inch water main on Seventh Avenue between Valley Park Drive and Glendale Road. A-Lamp Contractors, Inc. was the lowest bidder on the project, at $314,592. The five bids topped out at $339,179.

"The final cost of this project will be based on actual work quantities, not to exceed the bid amount," village staff said in a summary provided to the village board.

Trustees also voted unanimously to contract with Pearson, Brown & Associates, Inc. to commence the design engineering for replacement of the water main on West Park Avenue between Dawes Street and Dymond Road. The design engineering is expected to cost no more than $36,700, "which is approximately 10 percent of the improvement construction cost estimate of $400,000," according to staff.

Police Sergeant Contract Approved

In other news, trustees voted unanimously to approve the collective bargaining agreement between the village and the Fraternal Order of Police Sergeant's Lodge. The two-year contract includes a 1 percent salary increase effective May 1, 2012; a 1 percent increase effective Nov. 1, 2012; and a 2 percent increase on May 1, 2013.

The previous contract expired April 30, 2012.
