Trustees Vote To Overturn ARC Sign Recommendation

Local doctor allowed to install signage with bigger lettering despite 4-0 vote by Appearance Review Committee against his request.

Libertyville trustees went against a 4-0 recommendation by the Appearance Review Commission to deny - and instead granted - the appeal of Libertyville Dr. David Lloyd, to install a new letter sign better advertising his practice at 915 N. Milwaukee Ave.

At issue was how big the lettering on the sign should be allowed to be.

"Unfortunately, with these 2-inch and 3-inch letters, nobody can see my sign," Lloyd told board members during the May 24 board meeting. "Three-inch to 6-inch letters would actually allow my sign to be visible on Milwaukee Avenue.

"There are other signs with 12 to 18-inch letters on Milwaukee Avenue," Lloyd added.

The Appearance Review Commission had stated they were concerned Lloyd's sign would stand out compared to the names of the other three tenants who share space and do business on the property. Lloyd provided documentation that the others on the property were supportive of his decision, in the form of notarized letters from those tenants.

Trustees unanimously approved Lloyd's request after a lengthy discussion.
