Village Considers Moving Adler School's Bus Circle

Libertyville Elementary District 70 will have to provide additional engineering information before moving forward with new plan.

After reviewing’s new plan to construct a bus turnaround behind , the village’s parks and recreation committee agreed that further investigations would need to take place before approval.

“It’s close to the river, so we need to get an engineer to look at it and make sure that’s not in a flood plain,” Village Administrator Kevin Bowens said to the committee. “There also needs to be a re-grading plan that we would approve.”

, but construction was halted after parents and administrators felt the turnaround took away too much green space and worried about the proximity to the school’s playgrounds.

Plans to Move Circle East

The district now is asking for more easement space, moving the circle to the east to an area occupied by the park’s unused sand volleyball courts.

Committee Chairman Drew Cullum expressed concerns over the placement of the bus circle over a current access road to the Des Plaines River Trail.

“It’s used primarily by runners or bikers coming off the trail,” Cullum said. “I just want to make sure that if they put this big turnaround there, that we’re still allowing an access point.”

Turnaround to Ease Congestion

pursued the idea of a bus turnaround for the elementary school to ease congestion and alleviate further problems due to . The bus turnaround will allow buses to exit the grounds via the stop light at the park entrance on Milwaukee Avenue.

According to officials, the green space will remain and be restored.
