Village Works to Promote Libertyville Sports Complex

Village officials suggests using venue as concert space and cross promotion with other fitness centers.

Village officials are working hard to promote Libertyville Sports Complex with plans such as cross promotion and using the venue for concerts.

Connie Kowal, director of recreation and sports complex, is planning to cross-market the golf course with Lake Bluff Golf Club. The plan would offer special golf rates at the Lake Bluff Golf Club to Libertyville residents and those referred by Libertyville Driving Range and Golf Course for the 2010 season.

In return, the Lake Bluff Golf Club would promote Libertyville Golf Course and Driving Range. Kowal has also extended the plan to other surrounding facilities and is awaiting responses.

Kowal would also like to promote the sports complex as a concert venue.

“I’d like to test it with purely local bands,” Kowal said. “Bands you’d see at Mickey Finn’s or Cubby Bear that would bring in no more than 250 people. We wouldn’t venture into anything that would compromise what we do.”

His idea was met with scrutiny from Mayor Terry Weppler as well as trustee members.

“I have big concerns with us being concert promoters,” Weppler said. “There’s a big risk in this. We can lose a lot of money. It’s very weather dependent. I see it being a big problem.”

The Parks and Recreation committee will continue to discuss the plans, which are still at the committee level and have not been approved by the village board.
