Volunteers Needed For Health and Wellness Event

Marketing Committee is getting ready to kick-off 120 day event to promote physical fitness and healthy eating choices.

The Marketing Committee is looking for people to help organize and lead several events for their upcoming wellness program, said Chairwoman Diane Langhorst at Tuesday's meeting.

The wellness program is scheduled to begin the first weekend in May, with a focus on helping Libertyville residents increase their physical activity while learing to make healthy dietary choices.

Although the event's title and tagline still needs to be finalized, a subcommittee for the event presented their ideas for the 120-day event. Titles such as ‘Move Libertyville Move!’ and “Libertyville on the Move!” are being considered.

Subcommittee members would like to hold the kick off at the Sports Complex, but have not chosen a closing venue. They may conclude the event at the Twilight Shuffle race scheduled in early September.

A community calendar is planned to help residents find events. Aside from physical activities, the calendar will include seminars and programs about health. Committee members are looking for businesses that would like to participate or lead the seminars. They are open to different types of health seminars, such as cooking, vitamins, or general health information.

The subcommittee is looking into the possibility of having a booth at the Farmer’s Market on Center Street and at Out To Lunch in Cook Park to promote the fitness and wellness experience.

Contests that get people moving, such as hula-hoops and dancing are expected to be scheduled during Libertyville Days at the bandstand when bands are not playing.

Residents and business owners can contact the Marketing Committee through the Village Hall. They are also welcome to attend the next meeting, scheduled at 4 p..m on April 19 at Austin’s Saloon and Steakhouse.
