Where Your Property Tax Dollars Go

The two school districts receive 77 percent of Libertyville residents' tax dollars.

The following is an approximated list of where your property tax dollars go, by percentage, according to a packet provided by the Village of Libertyville during a March 12 workshop/meeting.

  • School District 70 (40%)
  • School District 128 (37%)
  • Village of Libertyville (7%)
  • Cook Library (4%)
  • Lake County (3%)
  • Forset Preserve District (3%)
  • College of Lake County (3%)
  • Libertyville Township (2%)
  • CLCJAWA (Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency) (1%)

In addition to the list above, the village, which projects a balanced budget and surplus of about $1.8 million for the 2011-12 fiscal year in its initial reports, provided Libertyville Patch with the town's estimated projected revenue, by source, for the coming fiscal year.

According to preliminary numbers, which are subject to change, Libertyville anticipates an estimated $44.3 million in revenue for the 2011-12 fiscal year, compared with approximately $42.5 million in expenditures - for a surplus of about $1.8 million.

Again, it should be noted that these are preliminary numbers, and subject to change. The Libertyville Village Board will vote on a finalized budget during a meeting in April.
