Work on Route 21 to Start March 22

Intermittent lane closures may be required between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Milwaukee Avenue during the week of March 26.

As part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s work on Illinois Route 21, northbound and southbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue will be pushed east at Brookhill Road to create work zone for the demolition of the west half of Bull Creek Bridge, just south of Brookhill Road, according to the village’s website.

Intermittent lane closures may be required between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week of March 26, when Walsh Construction starts the demolition work.

The IDOT project will widen the highly used roadway to alleviate traffic.

. Work is now starting for the pre-staging of the second phase of the project, which includes construction of traffic lanes, putting in new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, retaining walls, retention pond and storm water improvement systems.

The $25 million project involves reconstructing the roadway, building a second lane in both directions and adding an 18-foot landscaped median along 2.2 miles. New traffic signals will be installed at Route 21 and Casey Road. Dual left turn lanes and right turn lanes in each direction will be added at Route 21 and Route 137.
