Bongle Named Principal at Adler Park School

Kerri Bongle, assistant principal at Highland Middle School, has been named principal of Adler Park School for the start of the 2013-14 school year.

The move also propels Lorenzo Cervantes, dean of students at Highland Middle School, to the assistant principal position. The district will begin interviewing candidates for the dean position this week.

The Libertyville Elementary School District Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to appoint Bongle to the top slot left open this month by Jon Bogie, who resigned to pursue other educational interests.

The board made the same strong show of support by unanimously promoting Cervantes to assistant principal.

“I am tremendously excited about these appointments and proudly recognize the efforts of these two talented administrators,” said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher. “Mrs. Bongle will make a wonderful principal at Adler Park School while Mr. Cervantes will step into the role with professionalism and ease. Their experiences and leadership skills are greatly valued in the district and community.”

Bongle joined the district 12 years ago, having taught fifth grade in Northbrook for a year. She taught third and fifth grades at Copeland Manor School, where she also did her administrative internship. She was principal of the D70 Summer School program for two years until she moved in to the director position three years ago.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to join the Adler Family,” Bongle said. “I look forward to returning to my elementary roots, while having gained the knowledge I have these past two years in middle school. I am excited to get the school year started and look forward to meeting with the students and families at the BBQ and Curriculum Night.”
Bongle was promoted to middle school principal two years ago. She has a master’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton.

Cervantes joined District 70 two years ago, becoming the first Dean of Students at Highland Middle School.

“I am excited to continue working with the phenomenal community of Highland Middle School,” Cervantes said. “My new role will allow me the opportunity to see Highland through a different lens. I look forward to building new relationships with both the families and staff of Highland.”

Cervantes was substituting in District 70 after having taught for 10 years. He taught third and sixth grade in California, and taught third grade in Oak Park, Il. He has a master’s degree from Benedictine University and a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University.

When Bongle goes on maternity leave this fall, retired Adler Park Principal Janet Brownlie will fill in as principal. Brownlie was principal of the district’s smallest school for 22 years.

Bongle is pleased to be able to work with Brownlie once more.

“I know myself, the Adler staff and Mrs. Brownlie will make this transition as smooth as possible for the students and families at Adler.”
