College of Lake County Proposes Fall Tuition Increase

College of Lake County students planning to enroll in the fall 2013 semester are likely to pay more in tuition costs.

The cost of an education at the College of Lake County could be higher starting in the fall.

The college proposes to raise the FY2014 tuition rate by $3 to $115 per in-district credit hour, according to information from the College of Lake County.

Out-of-district tuition and fees would increase by $7.75 to $266.75 per credit hour.

Student per credit hour fees would remain at $19 for all students.

A vote on the tuition increase is expected at the next meeting, as Tuesday's meeting of the CLC Board of Trustees was canceled due to the snow storm.

CLC board Chairman Richard Anderson told the Daily Herald that an estimated 5 percent reduction in state funding for FY2014 is leaving the college with little choice but to increase tuition.

"I hate tuition increases, but unfortunately it is a place where we do generate some revenue," Anderson said.

Last year, CLC trustees voted 5-2 to increase tuition from $109 to $112. Trustee Barbara Oilschlager, who voted against the measure and will seek re-election in April, told the Daily Herald she may vote it down again.

The College of Lake County's main campus is in Grayslake, but there are also branch locations in Vernon Hills (Southlake) and Waukegan.
