College of Lake County to Hold Third 'Man Up' Conference

The Oct. 26 event is open to high school- and college-aged male students.

The Third Annual Man Up male student success conference will be held on Friday, Oct. 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

This free event for Lake County high school and college students will feature a keynote speaker, a variety of success workshops and lunch.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Bennie Lambert, vice president of student services at Lone Star College in Houston, Texas. He will talk about “Leadership, Achievement and Succeeding in Life.” Dr. Lambert has dedicated his life to helping people reach their potential. As a gifted communicator, he combines humor and wisdom to inspire and inform audiences. He has spoken at more than 100 high schools, colleges and universities and served as a motivational consultant to several of the most respected local and national companies and organizations. He has encouraged thousands of people to seek higher education, learning and performance goals.

The conference will feature break-out workshops on topics that include: college success: strategies on how to make it in college; respect and responsibility in relationships; male stereotypes and the media; money, power, respect; empowering men to succeed; and academic support services (writing papers, taking tests, math tutoring).
