D70's Destination Imagination Team Places 22nd

Libertyville Elementary District 70's DI team placed 22nd at the global competition.

A team of Libertyville Elementary District 70 elementary students involved in an international Destination Imagination program placed 22nd in a worldwide competition in May.

Destination Imagination challenges students in problem solving techniques.

This year, a team of Butterfield students placed first in a state competition at Illinois State University on April 9. The placing propelled them to the global competition held May 25-28 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where they placed 22nd out of 49 entries, said school sponsor Karen McLean, a Butterfield teacher.

Members of the team “DI-Classified” participating in the Unidentified Moving Object challenge were Emma Chandler, Jonathan Timm, Milica Lukic, Erin Leese, Tate Constable and Jake Duffy. The managers were Elizabeth Chandler and Dan Timm.

For the challenge, teams needed to figure out how to design and build equipment to move between towering heights without using electricity.

This marks the fourth year in a row District 70 has sent teams to the global competition.

The sponsors for all the District 70 teams this year are teachers McLean and Ashley Zeinz.
