District 70 Reworks Some School Parking Lots

Libertyville Elementary District 70 will be repaving parking lots at most of its schools this summer.

The parking lots at most of the Libertyville Elementary District 70 schools will be repaved this summer, with construction at the .

Summer construction is being limited to the parking lots, although preliminary plans are under way for roof work, window replacement and replacing outside doors at some of the five public schools.

To help ease traffic flow at on Milwaukee Avenue, the school buses will use a new turnaround behind the school in the fall. The bus circle will be built just east of the playground in back of the school, off .

Putting the buses in the back of the school will free up parent drop-off in front of the school, said Dr. Kurt Valentin, the district’s assistant superintendent of finance and operations. The parking lot work will include creating sidewalks to the school.

The turnaround actually is the result of the Illinois Department of Transportation constructing a 6-inch-high concrete dividing strip down the center of Milwaukee Avenue that will prevent southbound buses from making the turn into Adler Park School, said Valentin.

The parking lot at , which is in poor shape, will be redone this summer. The parking lot at also will be repaved once summer school is finished. Work also will be done to the parking lot at , which will include the removal of islands to create more parking spaces.         

As is typical in the summer when students are gone, general work will include painting, replacing carpeting and minor repair work.
