CCU Hosts Free Seminar: "Getting Through Tough Financial Times"

Public invited to no-cost workshop on effective budgeting and debt management

Libertyville, IL, April 3, 2012:  With unemployment at an all-time high and many people on shrinking budgets, the necessity for an effective plan to help maneuver through a financial crisis is more important than ever before. In fact, downward pressure on personal savings combined with reduced job security have made it vitally important to provide ourselves with the proper tools to help successfully navigate these tough financial times.

For those with questions about how to prioritize debt and reduce spending, Consumers Credit Union (CCU) and Consumers Cooperative Association have joined hands to present “Getting Through Tough Financial Times,” a no cost educational workshop, on April 11th.  This free seminar is designed to help build better spending habits, present effective methods on how to pay down debt and help attendees create a better budgeting system.

“In times like these, where financial circumstances can change on a moment’s notice, learning best practices for maintaining an effective budget are vitally important,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President.  “This workshop will show attendees options for creating a budget that best suits their personal needs in the current economic environment.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, get answers and move forward with renewed confidence in your own financial security.”

The workshop is led by Karen Chan, a Consumer Economics Educator with University of Illinois Extension. Ms. Chan holds a master's degree in Family and Consumption Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech. She regularly offers financial workshops on basic budgeting, retirement planning and investing. In addition, she has developed numerous web sites and publications, including the All My Money train-the-trainer curriculum.
