CCU Hosts FREE Seminar: "Protecting Yourself From Identity Theft"

Public invited to attend no-cost educational seminar Thursday, October 11, 2012

Waukegan, IL, September 25, 2012:  Each passing day brings new technological developments – and as technology advances, it’s easier than ever to send personal information at the press of a button.  In today’s world, bills are paid electronically and large purchases can be made with a swipe of a card. With these innovations, it’s important to recognize new dangers may accompany these conveniences, requiring you to shield yourself from theft of your personal information.

That’s why Consumers Credit Union (CCU, $580 Million, Waukegan, IL) is hosting our FREE “”Protecting Yourself From Identity Theft” seminar. This workshop will provide helpful insight into the world of Identity Theft, why it happens and how to protect your personal information.

“Nothing is more important to each of us then the preservation of our identity and personal information,” noted Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President. “In a day and age where a person’s reputation can be ruined by a click of a mouse, it’s imperative that we equip ourselves with the know-how to ensure these types of attacks are prevented before they happen.  Our “Identity Theft” workshop offers time-tested safeguards to thwart identity theft and the damage it can do to your credit, your reputation and your life.”

The no-cost workshop is lead by Buck Austin of BALANCE Financial Fitness. Buck holds degrees in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Iowa and has 11+ years experience in the financial sector. Buck has an extensive history of working with families and individuals to help them create better financial futures. He’ll provide attendees answers to questions about how an identity can be stolen, what criminals do with your information once they have it, along with tips for preventing identity theft.  Just as important, the workshop will also discuss methods on how to recover from theft of your identity, as well.
