New Job Search Networking Group Formed in Vernon Hills

More than 4 four million Americans have been unemployed for more than a year, with many more who are underemployed or newly unemployed. In Lake County, IL, alone, the December 2011 published unemployment figure is 9.6 percent. As a community service, to help the unemployed, Congregation Or Shalom in Vernon Hills is starting a community-focused job search networking group on Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. The group will meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The group is being spearheaded by individuals who themselves have had a great deal of experience in the world of job hunting and identify with the trials and tribulations job seekers are faced with today, especially those over the age of 40.

After the initial introductory session on March 21, outside speakers – experts in a variety of areas -- will address a number of topics to help job seekers attain their goals. These include identifying marketable skills and creating killer resumes, using LinkedIn and other social media more effectively, how to effectively brand yourself and network, and how to target your search, as well as how to most effectively work with recruiters and “head hunters.”  In addition, a private LinkedIn networking group has been created to allow for additional networking and information sharing.
