The student appears to have suffered no major injuries.

A vehicle hit a student on the south side of the school Wednesday, according to a school official.

The incident occurred at 8:15 a.m. while the student was using the crosswalk on Rockland Road. The student was coherent and able to walk to the side of the road after the incident, according to Robin Kollman, Libertyville Elementary District 70 public relations facilitator.

An ambulance was called and the student's parents accompanied the student to the hospital. The student appears to have suffered no major injuries.

"Our No. 1 priority is that the student is OK," said Highland Middle School Principal Jon Hallmark. "It was vital yesterday that we talk to our students to remind them of their duties in exiting or entering vehicles, crosswalks and pedestrian safety in general. It takes the entire learning community to work together to keep our students and our schools safe."

Hallmark also sent emails to parents to inform them of the accident and remind them that students being dropped off in front of Highland Middle School should only exit vehicles that are facing west; or exit vehicles on side streets south of Rockland Road.
