LHS Teacher in Greenland to Work on Operation IceBridge

What's he doing? Find out how you can monitor his progress!

Libertyville High School teacher Mark Buesing is officially on his trip to work with scientists in Greenland—and you can follow what he's up to through an online journal.

Buesing applied to participate in NASA's Operation IceBridge, during which researchers fly over the ice in Greenland and collect detailed, 3D images of the ice.

"By doing that over months and years, they can develop a model and look at past data to monitor how things are changing," Buesing told Libertyville Patch in late January.

Buesing's most recent journal entry, from March 29, includes photos he took at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and the International Ice Carving Championships. In another photo, Buesing is "holding an Arctic ground squirrel while it's hibernating! Their core temperature drops as low as -2.9 C. That's below the freezing point of water," Buesing wrote.

He revealed that the March 29 entry from Alaska would be the last in the state, with the next entry being from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. Watch for his next post on his journal page.
