LHS Teachers Honored by State Organizations

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), along with the Illinois Education Association (IEA) and the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT), Tuesday honored 36 educators who were chosen as the best in their field of expertise during the 2012-13 school year, by their respective professional education organizations.

The educators, all of whom earned awards for their work teaching specific subjects, were recognized during a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield. The 36 educators recognized included Libertyville High School English Teachers Anne Singleton and Rebecca Kinnee, who were recognized as Outstanding General Education Teachers of the Year by the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children. They co-teach World Literature at LHS. 

Anne Singleton joined Community High School District 128 in 2006 as a PAWS teacher at Libertyville High School. Prior to teaching at LHS, she was a Language Arts teacher for two years at Minooka Junior High School. She holds an MA in English from Northern Illinois University and a BA in English from Purdue University. She has completed courses at Aurora University, and in 2003 received a study abroad academic scholarship to Oxford University in England. She is a graduate of Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis

Rebecca Kinnee joined District 128 in 2006 as an English teacher at LHS.  She is currently working towards an MA in Education from Walden University, and holds a BA in English, Literature from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is a graduate of Palatine High School.

In speaking about all of the teachers recognized at the luncheon, State Superintendent of Education Christopher A. Koch noted, “These outstanding teachers have demonstrated their passion for teaching in a variety of curriculum arenas. They are tireless in their pursuit of finding ways to help ensure students are learning and succeeding. We are pleased to have the opportunity to extend our thanks and appreciation for their commitment to Illinois’ students and education.”

“The Illinois Education Association is always proud to help sponsor the Teacher Recognition Luncheon, a wonderful way to thank and acknowledge Illinois’ many outstanding educators,” said Cinda Klicka, President of IEA. “The award winners have shown exemplary teaching in each of their fields, and they remind us that great education is being delivered to our students every day in every school in Illinois.” 

“All of these outstanding teachers are a prime example of the experts we have in classrooms all over the state,” said Dan Montgomery, President of IFT. “Those who can, teach and they do it well every day. We are proud to honor these distinguished teachers and thank them for their dedication to our children.”
