Libertyville Dance Teacher Wins High Honors

Last school year, the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance named dance teacher Eryn Brown the Dance Educator of the Year for the state of Illinois.

Community High School District 128 is pleased to announce that Brown recently was named Midwest Dance Educator of the Year by the Midwest District of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Brown is in her eighth year of teaching dance in the Physical Welfare Department. In addition to her curricular classes, she also serves as Libertyville High School orchesis director, and choreographer for the fall musical.

Under her direction, orchesis received the honor of performing in the Student Showcase of the Illinois High School Dance Festival in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Additionally, her musical theater choreography has been performed at the state level during the performances of Pippin and at the Illinois Theater Festival in 2006 and 2011.

The Midwest District of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance district is comprised of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia. The winner from each of the organization’s six districts goes on to compete for the national level of the award. Brown will go on to interview and complete the process for the National Dance Education of the Year Award at the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Convention next March in Boston.
