Libertyville HS Decathlon Team 4th in State

Congratulations to the Libertyville High School decathlon team which placed fourth in a state academic competition on March 16!

The Libertyville High School Academic Decathlon team finished fourth out of 45 teams in the state competition held Saturday, March 16 on the Chicago State University campus.

Team members were Adam Grabowski, Maggie August, John Schueler, Nishad Phadke, Nick Serrecchia, Jack Mershon, Brian Kite, and Jon Lothspeich.

Nishad Phadke finished first in mathematics and Brian Kite finished first in science.

Libertyville finished behind Whitney Young, Lane Tech and Carl Shurz high schools.

In the academic decathlon, each student competes in all 10 academic disciplines: Essay, Art, Speech, Math, Interview, Economics, Language & Literature, Music, Science, and Super Quiz (this year's topic was the Russia).

Students compete in three different categories based on GPA.

The team is coached by Mark Buesing who teaches Physics and AP Physics and coaches cross country.
