Dejon Named Richter Scholar

Lauren Dejon of Libertyville was selected as a Richter Scholar at Lake Forest College.

The Richter Apprentice Scholar Program offers a unique research opportunity to a small group of outstanding students early in their college careers. During the summer between their first and second years, Richter Scholars are employed for ten weeks as apprentice scholars working one-on-one with faculty members conducting independent research.

Dejon investigated the author Updike in discovering his involvement in the environment to enhance his work as a realist writer with Professor Ben Goluboff.

Dejon is a graduate of Libertyville High School.

Huse Named to Dean's List

Caroline Huse of Green Oaks was named to the Dean's List for the 2011-2012 academic year at Lake Forest College.

The Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved distinguished academic records. It is compiled at the end of each academic year. To be selected for this honor, a student must have attained a grade point average of at least 3.60 for two consecutive semesters.

Huse is a graduate of Libertyville High School.

Defreese Graduates from Drexel

Libertyville resident Lindsay Defreese graduated from Drexel University's Antionette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design with a Bachelor of Science. More than 5,000 students received degrees from Drexel this year at the University's 125th Commencement.

Speakers and honorary degree recipients of the Drexel commencement ceremonies included: Linda Gooden, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) business area and an officer of the Lockheed and Martin Corporation, Paul R. Ehrlich, a prominent ecologist and evolutionist, Sheila Bair, 19th Chairperson of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), David A. Kessler, M.D., former commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration, and Nile G. Rodgers, American musician, composer, arranger and guitarist.

Founded in 1891 in Philadelphia, Drexel is the nation's 14th largest private university and is ranked among the best national universities by U.S. News & World Report."
