New Principal Hired for Copeland Manor

The Libertyville Elementary District 70 Board of Education hired experienced principal Lori Poelking to lead Copeland Manor School next year.

Poelking, who replaces current Principal Erik Youngman as he moves into District 70’s director of curriculum and instruction role, was hired during a board meeting on May 20.

“Copeland and District 70 are ahead of the curve when it comes to standards based instruction and infusing 21st Century learning into lesson planning and instructional delivery,” Poelking said. “It is clear to me that parents are involved in their child’s education and want the very best for their children.  This is an exciting place, and I am eager to join such a great community.”

For the last six years, Poelking has been principal of South Elementary School in Des Plaines District 62. Before that she was an assistant principal at Westgate School in Arlington Heights School District 25. She was a gifted specialist and a third grade teacher before moving into administration.

“An inspiring educator with a strong professional background, positive leadership attributes and collaborative experiences, Lori will make a wonderful addition to Copeland Manor School and District 70 as a whole,” said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher. “We look forward to working with her as she enthusiastically transitions this summer.”

Poelking has her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and has her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Loyola University. She was a nominee for the Golden Apple award.
