Original story: Local schools are already canceling classes for Tuesday in advance of the continued extreme cold.

Libertyville District 70 and Community High School District 128 both announced on the districts' websites that classes will be canceled for Jan. 28.

District 70 shared this message on its website: "Due to the ongoing weather conditions and severe wind chills, District 70, in collaboration with many Lake County school districts, will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 28. All district schools and the district office will be closed, as will the Champions program. There will be no extra curricular activities.

"As we settle back later this week, we will be meeting with administration and staff to look closely at the District 70 calendar. It is with much hope we can work to adjust the current calendar of events to keep from sending students to school any further into June. Once defined, we will share specific updates and details as soon as possible," District 70 officials added.

District 128 officials noted that the school board meeting scheduled for Jan. 28 has been rescheduled for Feb. 3.

The forecast high for Tuesday is minus 2, with wind chill values as low as 39 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service. A wind chill warning remains in effect until Wednesday morning.
