Drainage of the Vernon Hills High School pool is set to start at 8 a.m. May 9, followed by pre-construction demolition work starting May 11.

"The LHS sump assembly and drain cover unit has been manufactured and will be delivered this week for installation following required pre-demolition work. Barring unforeseen complications, LHS repairs are expected to take five to seven days with IDPH inspection and approval to follow within 3 days," according to the update. "The VHHS circulation pump assembly and drain cover unit has been manufactured and will be delivered this week for installation following required pre-demolition work. Barring unforeseen complications, VHHS repairs are expected to take five to seven days with IDPH inspection and approval to follow within three days."

. The pool had closed for 21 days in October after failing to get an extension to meet a pool compliance mandate from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The district is required to repair drains at the pool to meet the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act of 2007, which requires new drains or covers that cannot trap swimmers with powerful suctions. The district must conduct required repairs and pass necessary inspections prior to June 1, 2012.
