District 70 board members unanimously approved Damenti, who with her husband, Mike, has three children attending District 70 schools, following a special Executive Session on Aug. 10. While eight people took out applications for the board seat in August, only six people completed the application process. All six were interviewed on Aug. 10.

“The board was very pleased so many qualified candidates were interested in serving with us,” said District 70 Board President Maryann Ovassapian. Damenti's extensive volunteerism in the schools, as well as her clear leadership roles on several Family Association boards, and her professional background brought her to the top of the list of candidates.

“We are thrilled to have Julie be a part of our school board. She has a great connection with the district, serving on FAD70 and the Copeland Manor Family Association,” Ovassapian said. “She is a great addition and a good fit.”

Being selected to be a member of the board is an honor, Damenti said.

“I am so thrilled to have been selected to serve our community and this district that I love,” she said. “I have had the pleasure to work alongside Dr. Schumacher and many members of the board over the past few years and look forward to taking on this new role.  I am proud of how fiscally responsible the district is managed and that families are drawn to our community because of our district.”

An Assest to the District

Already having a working relationship with Damenti and knowing of her dedication and professionalism is a plus for Dr. Schumacher.

“Julie will be a tremendous asset to the District 70 Board of Education,” said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher. “She displays a profound sense of dedication to our schools. Her experience as a leader coupled with her professional background and commitment for excellence in education will serve our students and entire community well.”

Damenti, who has a bachelor of science in accountancy from Miami University in Ohio, has worked as an auditor, a recruiting manager, a human resource manager for Grainger, and more recently, a real estate agent.
