SEDOL Foundation’s Inaugural “Making Strides For Special Kids” 5k/10k Run & Family Walk – September 17, 2011

The term “making strides” indicates that someone or a group of people are taking positive steps towards a next level of achievement of creating progress towards an ultimate goal.  So it is only fitting that the SEDOL Foundation (Special Education District of Lake County) has announced its new annual 5K/10 Run & Family Walk has the theme “Making Strides For Special Kids".

Scheduled for Saturday, September 17 at Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville, the inaugural “Making Strides For Special Kids” event aims at raising awareness, fostering interest in running for wellness and enjoyment, and – most importantly – helping to raise funds to enrich the educational, vocational, and social opportunities for over 2,600 physically and mentally disabled children and their families from 35 school districts in Lake County, IL.

An event like no other, “Making Strides For Special Kids” will feature a 5K/10K run and family walk, as well as a capable/handicapable event, during which CAPABLE runners and walkers from Fitness Pursuit Personal Training-Fitness in Grayslake will partner with HANDICAPABLE runners/walkers/wheelchair participants to experience a “race” – many for the first time.  The race will be timed using the ChronoTrack timing system and is expected to draw about 500 participants in advance of the 2011 Chicago Marathon, which is being held just three weeks later. The Foundation is working with Lakeshore Athletic Services, Runners’ Edge and the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) to help coordinate, manage and market the event.

ABOUT THE SEDOL FOUNDATION - The mission of the SEDOL Foundation is to generate and distribute resources that enrich the educational, vocational, and social opportunities for over 2,600 physically and mentally disabled children and their families from 35 school districts in Lake County, IL. The Foundation is dedicated to helping these children, their parents and siblings with support and services that the district cannot provide because public funding falls short of the enormous needs.  The Foundation seeks funds and other resources for these special families, many of whom are stretched both financially and emotionally in ways most of us will never know.  For them, the list of needs is extremely long and growing. For a variety of reasons, all of these students desperately need our help.  The Internal Revenue Service recognizes the SEDOL Foundation as a 501(c) (3) organization (public charity).  All donations made to the SEDOL Foundation are fully tax deductible in accordance with Internal Revenue Service regulations.
