The Future of Birds: Are Continuing Declines Inevitable?
Members of the public are invited to attend the Monday, April 2nd program of the Lake County Audubon Society. It will feature Donnie Dann, well-known environmentalist, presenting his program “The Future of Birds: Are continuing Declines Inevitable?” The meeting will be held at 7:30 pm at the Libertyville Village Hall, 118 W. Cook Street.
Birdwatching is now the nation’s second fastest growing hobby, after gardening. Witness the growing popularity of birdwalks and the rapid growth of digital field guides and other birding accessories. Donnie’s power point presentation will cover the main issues of bird conservation—both the threats and the efforts at confronting them. Today, a wide variety of threats is facing birds—including habitat loss, free-roaming cats, and collisions with glass, communication towers, and vehicles. Many local and national groups are working diligently to respond to these multiple threats, but there are ways that individuals can help.
This will be a free, hour and a half program. In addition to the program, custom-built cedar birdhouses will be available for sale in time for the nesting season.
