LHS Varsity Lacrosse Team Ends Successful Season

The Libertyville High School varsity lacrosse team's successful season came to an end May 30 following a loss to Loyola Academy in the state semifinal.

Going into the state semifinal, LHS had a 15-4 record, said Coach Brady Sullivan. The team was crowned the North Suburban Conference Champions.

No. 6 seed LHS defeated No. 11 seed Stevenson High School May 24. The Wildcats then beat No. 3 seed Glenbrook North May 28.

"Upsetting No. 3 Glenbrook North at their home field after they knocked us out of the playoffs last season at our home field was very exciting," said Sullivan.

The season was full of great moments, Sullivan said.

"The biggest accolades was three players (Cole Blazer, A.J. Schmidt and Kevin Verkler) being named all-american and 1st team all state, and one player (Nick Ward) being named 2nd team all state," said Sullivan.

"As a team, I am most proud that we have supported each other and stepped in to help each other as various players have gotten injured. Even with five starters missing time to injury, we have persevered and trusted each other."

Loyola Academy went on to win their second straight state lacrosse title, beating New Trier 9-6, according to the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association.
