Libertyville, Mundelein Mayors Make Friendly Wager Over High School Baseball

The mayor of whichever town loses the upcoming Libertyville-Mundelein series will buy dinner for the mayor, village board and staff of the winning town.

Libertyville Mayor Terry Weppler has a lot of faith in the Wildcats baseball team.

So much, in fact, that he's willing to bet on them.

Talk at a meeting between Weppler and Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz last night about how well their respective high school teams were doing led to a friendly wager, according to District 128 Director of Communications Mary Todoric.

"If either team sweeps the upcoming series on May 6 and 7, the other mayor  would have to provide dinner from local restaurants for the Mayor, Village Board and immediate staff at the winning Village’s next committee of the whole meeting," Todoric wrote in an email to Patch.

"Mayor Weppler is looking forward to Steve coming over and serving dinner!" she said.

Both mayors are longtime local baseball fans, according to Todoric. Lentz helped coach many Mundelein High School team members when they were about 11 years old, and Weppler is an Libertyville High School alum.

"According to LHS Varsity Baseball Coach Jim Schurr, the LHS team is really fired up!" Todoric added.
