Farmers Market Starts June 21

will kick off its annual Farmers Market on Thursday with a number of new items to be offered, including focaccia bread, goat milk soaps and fresh-made tacos.

The Farmers Market will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Thursday, June 21 through Oct. 18, on Church Street between Milwaukee and Brainerd avenues.

"It's a real farmers market," said Pam Hume, executive director of MainStreet Libertyville. It's all about "if you grow it or make it," said Hume.

"Ours is great," she said of the farmers market, which started 32 years ago.

Hume said about 30 farmers participate in the market. The full list of this year's participants can be found on the MainStreet Libertyville website.

"It takes up all of Church Street," she said of the size of the market.

Thursday's opening-day festivities will include a watermelon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Terry Weppler at 9 a.m. to officially open the market. R.C. Juggles will perform balloon sculpting, juggling and magic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Cook Memorial Library will offer "Fresh Picked Stories" at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Green Oaks Farmers Market

The Green Oaks Farmers Market will begin June 22 and will be held each Friday until Oct. 5. The market will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. at Lambs Farm, located at 176 and I-94.
