Mickey Finn's Brewfest to Feature Pig Roast, Rib Cook-Off

The ninth annual event will celebrate the brewery's 18th anniversary.

Readers, you've got a big task ahead of you.

If you're planning to attend "Backlot Brewfest 12" tomorrow, Aug. 11, you'll have the chance to sample up to a dozen varieties of ribs and help choose the best.

The annual Brewfest will feature a rib cook-off starting at 1 p.m., with the winner — chosen by popular vote — announced around 3 p.m., said Mickey Finn's owner Brian Grano. Prospective judges can purchase a ticket to sample the ribs and enjoy a beer, Grano said. The nine to 12 contestants expected to make ribs for the cook-off will all start with the same ribs and then use their own spices and sauces.

This year's Brewfest will be the ninth annual event, said Grano, and will celebrate the 18th anniversary of the brewery. Brewfest, which will be held in fenced-off tents behind Mickey Finn's, will include a pig roast, a special anniversary Mexican Cerveza served with a lime, and live music from "Betty Soul" and "Rock City Seven." Emily from 95 WIIL ROCK's "Tom & Emily Morning Show" will be at Mickey Finn's from 10 a.m. to noon.

"Everybody likes to eat and drink outside in the summer," said Grano.

Brewfest will be held from noon to 11 p.m. Entry to the family-friendly event is free before 5 p.m., Grano said. After 5 p.m., tickets will be $10 at the door. Grano noted that tickets can be purchased in advance at Mickey Finn's for $5.
