They aim to provide "a non-intimidating environment for women ages 14 and up of all abilities in which they can let their hair down and enjoy some mud, sweat, and cheers."

Consider their obstacle course events:

  • The Barn Burner - climbing over haybails
  • Just Get Over It - wall climb
  • One Ugly Mudder - mud hill scale and descent
  • Jail Break - fence jump

Keep in mind that these are all tackled while running a 5K.

People have signed up from throughout the entire Chicagoland area, inlcuding Lake and McHenry Counties. My friend Diana Newton and I will be joined by the following numbers of Dirty Girl participants who live in:

  • Illinois (5,983)
  • Wisconsin (762)
  • Indiana (135)
  • Iowa (105)
  • Michigan (61)
  • Missouri (24)
  • Kentucky (15)
  • Ohio (13)

So many participants, in fact, that the Dirty Girl Mud Run organizers are looking for volunteers on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1.

Dirty Girl Mud Run will take place at the Lake County Fairgrounds, located at the corner of Peterson and Midlothian Roads in Grayslake. If using a GPS to get there, use the following address: 19822 West Peterson Road, Libertyville.

To volunteer, fill out the application on their website. For more information, contact Dirty Girl at dirtygirl@gmrmarketing.com or click here: http://www.godirtygirl.com/ become-a-volunteer/

With a portion of the proceeds going towards the National Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, several teams have names and crazy costumes related to that theme. What a muddy fun way to donate to a good cause.
