Family Fun in the Summer!

Remember the excitement and anticipation that you felt when you were little and the last day of school was coming?  Remember all the fun things that you planned on doing?  Just thinking about the possibilities was fun!  What if you could feel that excitement again?  Even better, what if you shared that excitement with your kids?  You can do it and it’s easier than you thought!

I know that most of us don’t have the extra time OR the extra money to spend, so we need to make the most of what we have.  For time, you can plan activities around your free time on the weekends or take one evening a week and do something different!  Instead of coming home from work to the same routines, plan a picnic at the park and spend a couple of hours together.  You could stay home and play games or take a walk and go for ice cream.  Anything that shakes up your usual routine is fun just because it’s different!  Another idea is to take a half-day off from work for a few weeks instead of taking full-days.  You can take twice as many days and it will feel like a whole day off to the kids!  You can be home by noon and start your whole day of fun.  If you do this for a whole month, you’ve only used two vacation days but your kids will remember a month of Fridays (or Mondays, etc.) that you’ve spent together.  It will give each of you something to look forward to the whole month long!  Some things you can do with your new day off:  go to the zoo or a museum, go bowling, mini-golfing, to a movie, or to a park.  Check your local newspapers for coupons or discounts to some of these or find a special event that may be going on that week.

Another fun thing to do is to stay close to home!  Look around you and re-discover all the places that you pass by every day.  Most of us are so rushed in our daily lives that we say to ourselves that we’ll stop in there one day or we hurry in and out of places that we’d love to spend more time in.  So what’s in your area that you’d want to spend more time at?  Bookstores, libraries, little specialty stores, craft and hobby stores are just a few ideas.  Maybe you could just wander down to a local park or lake and spend some time reading or people-watching or relax and enjoy the view.

However you choose to spend your time, HAVE FUN THIS SUMMER!
