Lowe's Volunteers to Help Libertyville School

Lowe's volunteers will help make the lawn at Adler Park School safer for students.

Adler Park School's lawn will soon be safer for students, thanks to the efforts of some Lowe's volunteers.

Between 10 and 15 associates from Lowe's Vernon Hills, along with students' families, will descend upon Adler Park School in Libertyville July 25 to plant shrubs and other items.

The "Lowe's Heroes" project will "help beautify their front lawn while defining a play area for the children," said Shannon Lukey, human resource manager at Lowe's Vernon Hills.

"It's going to be great," said Lukey. "We're looking to help build a barrier for the children because they have such a large front yard that they can't use right now."

Lukey said volunteers from Lowe's stores across the country perform "Lowe's Heroes" community service projects every year. She said Lowe's did more than 1,300 community projects in 2012 and contributed more than $1.3 million to various communities.

Locally, the Lowe's Vernon Hills store employees have completed many projects. Last year, for example, volunteers worked with Palatine-based Clearbrook, an organization that helps secure meaningful work for people with disabilities, said Lukey. Volunteers built and painted 11 picnic tables for Clearbrook and built bookcases that are on rollers so  they can be easily moved.
