Special Kids Enjoy a Special Halloween Party

Deerfield Township entertains developmentally disabled youngsters

A special Halloween Party for children with special needs proved delightfully popular with both the kids showing off their colorful costumes and their proud parents happily enjoying themselves atSaturday afternoon.

The first-time event was the creation of officials of , which sponsored the event. They had help from the and parents and friends of the youngsters.

“We decided to do a special party for these special children because sometimes the youngsters become intimidated, frightened or just plain overwhelmed at the elaborate Park District’s scary Halloween Hoopla, or other events meant for older children,” said.

As the costumed children arrived in the foyer of Village Hall they received a paper-mache jack-o-lantern to stuff candy and cookies into. The there were games and other activities for the children to play, assisted by the firefighters and volunteers from and the Township.

Morrison said the event was well received by all and the Township will probably do similar events in the future.

Sounds like a wonderful party. How delightful that the Fire Department assisted as well. Where was the party publicized? I found out about it reading this article and I know my child would have loved to attend it had we known about it.

My kids loved the party. fireman Rick was a huge hit with them, and such a big help to me. The games and prizes were very well received by my three as well. Only thing is that the fourth picture is of my kids and myself, The O'Machels. It got the wrong tag on the photo.

This party was listed twice under Patch's "Events, Government & Family" listings, noting that it was sponsored by West Deerfield Township. Be sure to contact Township Supervisor Julie Morrison to be included in future special kids functions.
