'Walk & Roll' at Independence Grove on Sunday

The event serves as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

People will be walking, biking and even in-line skating through Sunday morning for the event.

"This is a really great experience," said organizer Katie Oshinski. "It's a great day for everybody to come out and unite for a good cause. It's a win-win."

The fundraiser at Independence Grove brings in about $75,000 each year for the American Cancer Society, Oshinski said. Statewide, Walk & Roll raises about $1 million each year, she said.

People can participate in a 5-mile walk, 10-mile in-line skate or a 15-mile bike ride.

While participants can raise money before the event, Oshinski said walk-ins are welcome. She said the registration fee is $15 for participants 18 and older, while those under 18 can participate for free.

Registration for Walk & Roll will begin at 8 a.m., with the event program beginning at 9. The walk will start at 9:30 a.m.
