More Snow Expected Tuesday Morning; High Winds Later Today

A wintry mix is expected later this week with widespread snow over the weekend.

A storm system moving across the area Tuesday morning could bring moderate snowfall with a "quick one inch of accumulation" possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for McHenry, Lake, Cook, DuPage and Kane counties for today and tonight.

The snow will likely fall over a two-hour period before west to northwest winds increase later in the morning and through the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach 35 to 40 mph, causing some blowing and drifting snow, according to the NWS.

Later in the week, a wintry mix of precipitation is possible.

Periods of snow, rain and drizzle are possible on Thursday and Friday before changing over to all snow on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Widespread snow is possible Saturday and Sunday.

It's unclear at this time where the wintry mix will occur, according to the NWS.

Visit the National Weather Service for more information on the Hazardous Weather Outlook.
