LHS Athletes Compete at State Track Meet

Congratulations to the athletes who advanced to state!

Libertyville High School athletes competed in the girls state track and field meet May 16-18. LHS ranked 31st in the state, according to the IHSA website. Senior Haley Becker took sixth in the high jump. Senior Nicole Jaffke won sixth in the pole vault.

Des Plaines Battery, Hazing Charges Filed Against Maine West Soccer Coach A former varsity boys soccer coach and teacher at Maine West High School faces multiple criminal charges related to reports of bullying and hazing, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez stated on Wednesday. Michael Divincenzo was charged with eight misdemeanor counts including three counts of battery, one count of hazing and four counts of failure to report abuse as mandated, in incidents on June 1, 2012, Aug. 31, 2012 and Sept. 26, 2012, according to court documents. Divincenzo is accused of threatening freshmen students to have the varsity players stick their thumbs up their buttocks if they did not communicate properly during a soccer drill, according to the …

Jewel Repeals Mandatory Cart-to-Car Service

Patch readers had a lot to say last month when asked what they thought of a new store policy in which baggers were obliged to follow customers and their carts out to their vehicles whether they wanted help or not.

If you've avoided shopping at Jewel-Osco for fear of being awkwardly trailed to your car by an employee, you're not alone, but there is good news. The once mandatory policy created by Jewel's new owners, Cerberus Capital Management LP, has been repealed. A statement on the store's website says the cart-to-car service will still be offered to customers, but it will no longer be forced upon them. Parts of our customer service philosophy are things that every grocery store should do, like ensuring the stores are clean, the shelves are well stocked, and asking if you need help finding an item. Medical Marijuana Bill Passed by Illinois Senate; Quinn Last Hurdle

Passed by a 35-21 vote, the bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn, who has not yet said whether he intends to sign it.

By a vote of 35-21, the Illinois Senate approved legislation on Friday that would allow doctors in the state to prescribe marijuana as pain relief for severe medical conditions. The bill now goes to Gov. Pat Quinn for his signature. According to the Chicago Tribune, the bill covers 33 specific conditions—including multiple sclerosis, cancer and HIV infection—and includes several controls, with a four-year trial program, dosage limits, fingerprinting, background checks and licensed dispensing centers. “This bill is filled with walls to keep this limited,” the paper quoted sponsoring Sen. Libertyville Little League Gets New Scoreboard

The IBEW Local 150 donated a new digital scoreboard to the league making the experience at Juniors Field even better.

Libertyville Little League's Juniors Field has a new illuminated digital scoreboard to enhance the experience for players and spectators, funded by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 150. Union electricians from Baum Sign helped install the scoreboard and required electrical equipment on Tuesday. The 7’6” by 14’ scoreboard, installed in the outfield, will not obstruct anyone’s view or cause light pollution in the surrounding neighborhoods.
