The Libertyville High School varsity baseball team won its final regular-season game Monday afternoon against Nazareth Academy. The final score was 5-2. The Wildcats took an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring one run. LHS held Nazareth at zero runs until the top of the seventh. Next up for LHS is the regional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. May 23. They'll play against the winner of Monday's Lake Forest vs. Zion-Benton game.
Professional dancers that have been featured in the Milwaukee Ballet and have performed with the likes of Beyonce will serve as special guest instructors at Dancenter North next month.
Ballet and jazz students will have the unique opportunity to get inspired by dance masters with Dancenter North's unique classes next month. Registration is now being accepted for Ballet Inspiration, to be held June 3 and 5. The cost is $25 per class, or $45 for two classes. Instructors include Courtney Kramer and Marc Petrocci. Kramer is in her eighth season with the Milwaukee Ballet and has enjoyed dancing in many roles choreographed by Michael Pink, Matthew Neenan, Lila York and many others. Petrocci is in his tenth season at the Milwaukee Ballet as a principal dancer. Congratulations to the athletes who advanced to state!
Libertyville High School athletes competed in the girls state track and field meet May 16-18. LHS ranked 31st in the state, according to the IHSA website. Senior Haley Becker took sixth in the high jump. Senior Nicole Jaffke won sixth in the pole vault.

The IBEW Local 150 donated a new digital scoreboard to the league making the experience at Juniors Field even better.
Libertyville Little League's Juniors Field has a new illuminated digital scoreboard to enhance the experience for players and spectators, funded by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 150. Union electricians from Baum Sign helped install the scoreboard and required electrical equipment on Tuesday. The 7’6” by 14’ scoreboard, installed in the outfield, will not obstruct anyone’s view or cause light pollution in the surrounding neighborhoods. Bring the family out to the Libertyville Golf Course's grand opening Saturday.
The Libertyville Golf Course will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18 featuring a $1 million hole-in-one contest, activities for kids and free pizza and soda. Under a 10-year lease agreement with the Village of Libertyville, the golf course is managed and operated by the BCS Golf Group-Studio 59, which is upgrading the facility to include new synthetic greens, tees and practice area. "This isn't your father's AstroTurf," said Studio 59 owner, Blair Subry on the Studio 59 website. Installation of the new turf was delayed after the April flooding but is expected to be completed in a matter of weeks, reported the Daily Herald. Three Libertyville High School runners qualified for the state track meet following the Palatine High School Sectional, held May 10. LHS senior Haley Becker took first place in the high jump, and senior Carly Stewart won first in the 800-meter run, according to the IHSA website. Stewart was named "LHS Athlete of the Week" on the district's Facebook page, which noted that "in the past two weeks, (Stewart) has improved her own school record in the 800-meter run. Last week at the NSC Conference track meet, she rant a time of 2:17.78 and was the conference champion for the 800-meter race for the second consecutive year. The Illinois High School Association approved new safety rules Wednesday to limit tackling in youth football practice in an effort to reduce head injuries, reported the Daily Herald. In March, a controversial bill sponsored by State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) proposing to limit the number of days players could have full contact hitting practice (twice a week) failed in the House committee. The new IHSA policy calls for coaches to gradually increase the time players can participate in preseason practice, along with the number of protective pads they can wear. On the seventh day of practice, players can participate in five hours of full contact drills wearing full pads, according to the IHSA. However, no single practice can exceed …
