Dear District 70 Families, I share with you an incident that occurred today outside of Rockland School. At approximately 10:30 a.m., Thursday morning, an automobile heading west on Rockland Road left the street, causing significant damage to signs, fencing and trees along the walkway. The automobile came to rest on the southeast end of the school playground. I am tremendously grateful that no children, staff or parents were injured as a result of this accident. Rockland Road was closed for a portion of the day while a police investigation was immediately underway. Students were kept inside for the remainder of the day and Principal Knapp visited classrooms assuring and comforting those alarmed by the serious nature of the event. School …

Update, 4:45 p.m.: The man who died following the single-vehicle crash on Rockland Road has been identified as James Hall, 69, of Libertyville, said Lake County Senior Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo. The cause of death has not yet been determined. "It's in relation to the accident. Tony Borcia, 10, was tubing when he was struck by a boat on Petite Lake in Lake Villa.
A Butterfield School student who was described as a "happy boy" who was expected to "be a leader in the school" was killed July 28 when he was apparently hit by a boat while tubing in Lake Villa. According to the Chicago Tribune, 10-year-old Tony Borcia of Libertyville fell off of an inner tube and was then struck by a boat. The incident happened on Petite Lake, which is off of Route 59, around 4:40 p.m. the Chicago Tribune reports. A Libertyville High School volleyball coach was driving students to a tournament when it collided with a truck in Grayslake on Oct. 22.
The coach of Libertyville High School’s volleyball team was driving a bus with 11 students to a tournament in Woodstock when it collided with a pickup truck on Route 83 in Grayslake on Saturday morning, Oct. 22. The bus was northbound on Route 83 and was making a left on Washington Street when it collided with a southbound pickup truck as both vehicles entered the intersection, according to Grayslake Police Chief Matt McCutcheon. Jorge Tamayo, 32, of Chicago, was cited with failing to yield when he turned left. Tamayo faces a $125 fine and is due to appear at North Branch Court on Nov. 23. “Both vehicles entered the intersection on solid green light,” McCutcheon said. Eleven girls from Libertyville High School were taken to area hospitals after their school bus crashed into a pickup truck in Grayslake Saturday morning.

Libertyville police arrested the offending driver Friday night. No injuries were reported.
Libertyville police responded to the scene of a hit and run accident in the area of East Park Avenue and Ashbury Lane about 4 p.m. on Friday. While investigating the incident police received information that the suspected offending driver may have fled to a residence in the 1200 block of East Park Avenue and was possibly armed with a firearm, according to a press release. After establishing a perimeter, police personnel were able to make contact with the suspect, who ultimately surrenderd without further incident. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time, nor have charges been filed, as the investigation continues.
