May 6-12 is National Nurses Week.
The day my youngest sister, Tena, graduated from nursing school at the College of Lake County, I couldn't imagine being more proud of her. She worked so hard, sticking with the program no matter how tough it was at times. And then, there she was on the stage with her fellow nursing students, citing the Florence Nightingale Pledge, promising to "devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care." And that is exactly what she has done since graduation. While she can't share specifics about her work with patients, I know she has saved lives. And I know that her patients love her. I am so proud of the great nurse she has become. We've all encountered nurses, whether at a physician's office or the hospital. Sometimes, a nurse (or nurse…

CLC hosted the MindTrekkers science fair April 12.
From the look of the floor in the College of Lake County gymnasium, you might have thought a party had just ended. Colorful popped balloons littered the floor. But the gymnasium hadn't been the site of a party. Instead, the popped balloons were evidence of failed attempts to stick a wooden rod through a balloon. That was among many science experiments students experienced April 12, when CLC hosted the MindTrekkers science fair. The exhibits were led by students and faculty from CLC and Michigan Technological University. Students who attended the science fair were from the following schools: Barrington High School, Beach Park Middle School, Big Hollow Middle School in Ingleside, Grant Community High School, Grayslake Central High …
