Libertyville to Paint Crosswalk on Brainerd Avenue

Village crews will be adding a crosswalk to make it safer for people crossing on Brainerd Avenue at Homewood Drive.

After a resident expressed safety concerns on Brainerd Avenue at Homewood Drive, Libertyville workers will be painting a crosswalk at the intersection after May 1. “The high school students walk down Homewood and go to the Brainerd building parking lot and there’s a concern for the safety of the kids,” said Libertyville Public Works Director John Heinz. The intersection of Brainerd Avenue and Homewood Drive is very close to Park Avenue. Brainerd Avenue is angled in a way that makes it hard for drivers turning from Park Avenue to see people crossing the street. Trustee Donna Johnson, who chairs the Streets Committee, was concerned that drivers would not be accustomed to seeing a crosswalk there. “After people have adjusted it’s no problem, …

One lane in each direction will be closed along Buckley Road, east of IL Route 21, for the installation of new storm sewer laterals just west of Des Plaines River, according to a village update. The closures are part of Illinois Department of Transportation’s road reconstruction project. The IDOT project will widen the highly used roadway to alleviate traffic. On Thursday, March 29, Commonwealth Edison will disconnect the power to the traffic signals at the intersection of IL Route 21 and IL Route 137 to replace the existing cables at that location. The outage will begin at 9 a.m. for about 30 minutes. Power to the traffic signals will be restored at 2 p.m. the same day. The $25 million project involves reconstructing the roadway, building…

Libertyville to Start Pavement Patching Projects

Village to patch pavements in three Libertyville locations; Crane Boulevard, Riva Ridge subdivision and around St. William Drive. All work scheduled for completion by end of April.

Village workers will start patching pavements in parts of Crane Boulevard and in the Riva Ridge neighborhood early next week, according to a village engineer. “We finished the Dymond Road project early and the project came in under-budget so we are using money leftover from that project” to patch pavements around Libertyville, said Frederick Chung, senior project engineer for the Village of Libertyville. Some 1,875-square-yards of Libertyville pavement and roadways will get rehabilitated thanks to low bids from the Dymond Road pavement reconstruction project. Chung says the village plans to spend about $100,000 patching pavements in three Libertyville locations –selected areas of Crane Boulevard, in the Riva Ridge subdivision and around St…

As part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s work on Illinois Route 21, northbound and southbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue will be pushed east at Brookhill Road to create work zone for the demolition of the west half of Bull Creek Bridge, just south of Brookhill Road, according to the village’s website. Libertyville Awards $103,065 for Pavement Patching

Village Board awards DiNatale Construction Inc. contract for pavement repairs around Libertyville.

Some 1,875-square-yards of Libertyville pavement and roadways will get rehabilitated thanks to low bids from the Dymond Road pavement reconstruction project. The village set aside $1 million for the Dymond Road project in its 2011-12 budget. Low bids reduced the final project cost to $850,000, about $150,000 under budget, according to village documents. To utilize the available funds, village staff decided that a second pavement rehabilitation project should be developed and constructed this year. “We have three areas that we will be concentrating on concrete patching,” said Libertyville Public Works Director John Heinz. Heinz says the area near Florsheim Drive and Artaius Parkway “is one of the most deplorable streets we have.” The …

West Parking Lot Open to Public, Some Work Remains

The biggest item left for the project is switching overhead utilities to underground utilities.

After a summer of construction, the west parking lot behind the rear of businesses on Milwaukee Avenue and the Village Hall is open to the public. “We’ve got an open parking lot, which is wonderful,” Public Works Director John Heinz said during Tuesday's Parking Commission meeting. “There are certainly a few bumps and grinds that we are going through. We are trying to complete some of the works so they are gobbling up some of the spots out there with construction trucks.” The west parking lot improvement project adds sidewalks and direct pedestrian access from the parking deck garage to Village Hall. The lot has also been reconfigured to allow for better traffic flow and easier truck deliveries. Waiting to Switch Utilities Underground …
