5K to Benefit District 128 Foundation

The District 128 Foundation for Learning will host its third Annual Lace Up 4 Learning 5K Run/Walk on Monday, May 27. The race benefits the foundation and its mission to provide resources for innovative and creative instructional ideas that enrich the experiences and programs for Libertyville and Vernon Hills high school students. There is a new location for this year's event—Westfield Hawthorn Mall. The cost to register is $30 before the race and $35 on the day of the event. D128 Uses Spring Break to Talk Summer School

Summer school classes will be held at Libertyville High School beginning June 11.

Summer school registration information is being mailed over spring break to District 128 students. The webstore will be open Tuesday, April 2 for students. The registration deadline is April 26. After this date, the district will fill classes with both District 128 students and non-district students. Students are not officially enrolled in a class until they've completed registration form and payment has been received. For more information, go to www.d128.org/summer-school.

District 128 approves district Fencing Club.

Libertyville to Award Tax Rebates

Village to rebate $1.9 million from special taxing district funds.

The Village of Libertyville will award more than $19 million in rebates from a special taxing district established in 1986 to raise money for downtown improvements, reported the Daily Herald. Among the 10 entities to receive these rebates are Libertyville Elementary District 70 ($716,331), Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 ($682,477) and the Cook Memorial Public Library District ($72,259).

Libertyville High School Graduates the Class of 2012

The Class of 2012 is the 113th class to graduate from Libertyville HIgh School. The Commencement Program was held at the Sears Centre Arena on June 1.

School Dist. 128 Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting

This is the 15th consecutive year the district has received this honor.

Community High School District 128 has received the Association of School Business Officials International’s (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award. The award is given in recognition of having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The district received the recognition for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2011.  This is the 15th consecutive year the district has received this honor. District 128 Narrows Deficit on Working Budget

Amended budget shows a possible $1 million deficit, down from the $3 million previously estimated.

After passing a working budget with a $3 million deficit in June, Community High School District 128 Finance and Facility's Committee members discussed amendments on Monday that saved the district $2 million. According to Yasmine Dada, assistant superintendent of business for the district, the budget will not be adopted and finalized until August or September. The majority of the $3 million deficit in June was due to capital improvement projects. Modifications have since been made to the fiscal year 2012 working budget to include additional tax revenues from the state and adjusted local taxes, adding $1 million in revenues. District 128 Weigh $3 Million Deficit in New Budget

But the budget will be balanced, according to Assistant Superintendent for Business Yasmine Dada.

District 128 school board members unanimously voted on June 27 to allow spending to continue through the summer months while they finished hammering out the details of the fiscal 2012 budget. The draft budget projects $79.5 million in revenue and $82.5 million in expenditures for 2011-2012 and is a “work in progress” according to Yasmine Dada, assistant superintendent for business for Community High School District 128. “With their (board members) recommendations, we will make changes for what they want to see in the budget,” Dada said. School board President Pat Groody expressed concern during the Facilities and Finance Committee meeting about the possibility of spending some of the district’s surplus monies on operating expenses.
