The Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society will kick off its fall-programming schedule with a free event discussing Lake County's oldest organized church, Ivanhoe Congregational Church, on Sept. 19. The historical society will feature several members of the Ivanhoe Congregational Church. Church historian Steve Schmitt and Jean Wilson will share the history of the Ivanhoe Congregation Church, which was founded in February 1938. The event is open to the public and visiting church members and will share the process of documenting and preserving the history of their organization for future generations. Lambs Farm, dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities, celebrates its 50th anniversary Saturday, Aug. 20, with Celebrating the '60s: Peace, Love & Lambs. The celebrations will feature performances such as the Trinity Irish Dancers, Ben the Bubble Guy creating bubbles the size of a car and more. 1. Nancy Sauseda was a teenager when she started working at the Lambs Pet Shop on State Street in downtown Chicago, founded by Bob Terese and Corinne Owen. 2. Bob Cairo works in the Lambs Farm work center on campus, but says that he has worked in almost every business on the 70-acre farm. 3. Love wine, beer, cigar and food? A fundraiser to save the Brainerd Building is still looking for volunteers. The second North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival is offering a free ticket, worth $35, to people who help get the festival on the road. Volunteers also will receive a souvenir glass and 10 tastes at the festival. The festival will feature more than 350 wines and 150 beers and eats from restaurants, such as MainStreet Smokehouse, Morgan’s Bar & Grill, Wisma, Sunset Foods, Tacos el Rey de Oro and Nirana Wine & Grillerie. David Adler Music and Art Center is hosting Festival of the Arts, Aug. 6-7 at Cook Memorial Park.
More than 50 artists and musicians from across the nation will spend the weekend in Libertyville’s Cook Memorial Park as part of the 31st annual Festival of the Arts. The free festival hosted by the David Adler Music and Arts Center, will feature artists such as Cindy Roehrich, who has been a part of the festival since she began making jewelry in 1993. Favorite Festival for Artist Roehrich, who grew up in Libertyville, said she considers the Adler festival her biggest and favorite show. “Some (festivals) are so large that you are just a number,” she said. “This is big enough but also small enough that you can walk through the artists a few times if you want.” The chance to reunite with customers and fellow artists is also what has drawn …

Civil War Days celebrates 20th year at Lakewood Forest Preserve during conflict’s sesquicentennial anniversary.
Travel back in time to 1861 when General Ulysses S. Grant led his first contest at the Battle of Belmont. The famous conflict that occurred in Missouri will be recreated at this year’s Civil War Days, July 9 and 10, at Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda. “We have a different battle scenario every year. This year it will be the Battle of Belmont. This is the second year that we will have the big battle on both days,” said Seleena Kuester, Lake County Discovery Museum educator. Museum staff has found that offering the big battle scene on both days helps spread attendance more evenly. With about 600 reenactors, the museum’s Civil War Days is one of the largest in northern Illinois, Kuester said. Besides watching the large-scale battle, …
