Libertyville Days Festival Made $28,000 for Foundation

Festival raises fund to maintain Libertyville Civic Center.

Libertyville Civic Center Foundation made about $28,000 from the 2011 Libertyville Days Festival during mid June, according to village documents. The funds will be used for ongoing building improvement and up keep to the Libertyville Civic Center as well as to provide entertainment for residents and neighboring community guests. On Tuesday, Libertyville trustees approved the foundation’s request to use village property and close streets during the 2012 Libertyville Days festival, which will take place from June 14 to June 17.  More related articles

Brainerd's North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival had something for everyone to savor from fine spirits, live music to beautiful weather.

With people lined up at the gate waiting for 3 p.m. to arrive, signs are good that the festival will bring in much-needed revenue for the Brainerd Community Center while providing a delightful day for the festival attendants. It was a win-win situation, thanks to excellent planning, generous volunteers and picture-perfect weather.

Tour the Brainerd Building During Festival on Aug. 27

The historic Brainerd Building will be open for tours during the North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival.

The public is invited to join guided tours of the Brainerd Building on Aug. 27 as part of the North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival to be held on the grounds at 416 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville. Tours will be available between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to demonstrate how the building can be converted into a community center. The public will be able to see what improvements are necessary as well as what inherent strengths are present in the building. The Brainerd Community Center group would like to educate residents about the sustainability and stability of the structure. The Former Libertyville High School is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been identified on the watch list by Landmarks Illinois as a property still …

The Brainerd Building is an icon within the community and it would be irresponsible for us to allow it to be torn down if there is a way to save and recycle it. There are numerous organizations within the community who have expressed interest in using the buildings. Libertyville Festival Offers Free Ticket for Volunteers

The second North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar, and Food Festival is still looking for volunteers.

Love wine, beer, cigar and food? A fundraiser to save the Brainerd Building is still looking for volunteers. The second North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival is offering a free ticket, worth $35, to people who help get the festival on the road. Volunteers also will receive a souvenir glass and 10 tastes at the festival. The festival will feature more than 350 wines and 150 beers and eats from restaurants, such as MainStreet Smokehouse, Morgan’s Bar & Grill, Wisma, Sunset Foods, Tacos el Rey de Oro and Nirana Wine & Grillerie. Libertyville Festival Adds Home-Brew Competition

The North Shore Wine Beer Cigar Food Festival will be held from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Brainerd Community Center field.

As commercial brewers again prepare to fill the tents at this year’s North Shore Wine, Beer, Cigar and Food Festival, organizers are bringing a new addition: a home-brew beer contest. “Small local brewers are becoming more and more popular,” said Fred Losch, owner of Losch Beverage Co., and one of the contest organizers and judges. “We thought presenting them would draw more people to the festival.” Contestants must pay a $5 entry fee, register online, and drop off two bottles of their brews at Mickey Finn’s Brewery between Aug. 8 and 18. Festival Attracts More than 50 Artists Nationwide

David Adler Music and Art Center is hosting Festival of the Arts, Aug. 6-7 at Cook Memorial Park.

More than 50 artists and musicians from across the nation will spend the weekend in Libertyville’s Cook Memorial Park as part of the 31st annual Festival of the Arts. The free festival hosted by the David Adler Music and Arts Center, will feature artists such as Cindy Roehrich, who has been a part of the festival since she began making jewelry in 1993. Favorite Festival for Artist Roehrich, who grew up in Libertyville, said she considers the Adler festival her biggest and favorite show. “Some (festivals) are so large that you are just a number,” she said. “This is big enough but also small enough that you can walk through the artists a few times if you want.” The chance to reunite with customers and fellow artists is also what has drawn …
